Man United Transfer News! 'Hummels Is Red Devils' Number One Defensive Target'

The Daily Express' Manchester football correspondent Richard Tanner casts his eye over the latest transfer news from Old Trafford - and claims the Red Devils have made Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels their number one
target.

The Germany centre-back has long been linked with a switch to Manchester United, although the journalist claims he is happy to stay at the Bundesliga side, and the Premier League club may have to turn their attentions to Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "Hummels is their number one target but I don’t think he wants to come. He’s been quoted as saying he is happy where he is and wants another year in Germany.

"Thomas Vermaelen is very much on their radar. He might not be able to get in the Arsenal team but Manchester United fancy him.

“There are also a couple of Dutch players that new boss Louis van Gaal knows well, Bruno Martins Indi and Stefan de Vrij. They are a possibility."
